WebMarkushevich (1908-1979) was one of those mathematic- ians for whom the history of science was not simply a matter of idle curiosity but a long-term subject of systematic research. WebMarchetti found the claim that an infinite number of zeros could add up to a finite quantity absurd, and he inferred from Grandi's treatment the danger posed by theological reasoning.
